Play_Up_Pompey vs. bearsailing (Rule 18 - Mark room (!)) L1-euro_1284066047_lasernorthamericans! [3] Not giving sufficient mark room 2010/09/09 22:34 (1 Year, 5 Months ago)
" When boats are overlapped the outside boat shall give the inside boat mark-room, unless rule 18.2(b) applies." Bearsailing doesnt give sufficient room for me to round the mark without hitting it with my boom when i bear off

System Info:Play_Up_Pompey was given a pen at t=124 (RE:Rule 18 - Mark room (!)).    Play_Up_Pompey raised the P flag at=128.  Play_Up_Pompey span at t=147.

I feel that I gave the proper room at the mark in this case and that pompey could have rounded the mark with out striking it.

I could be wrong but would like to see what others think.

I believe that pompey was the row boat and that I fouled him I am just confused as to why the computer penalized him when we collided.

Hi bearsailing,

Thanks for the answer. Yes PUP is the ROW boat according to rule 11 and you also owe him Mark-Room according to rule 18.2.a, both rules started to apply as soon as he finished his tack. So he was the leeward overlapped ROW boat and you must keep clear of him. So unfortunately you break R11 and R18.2.a on contact.

If you want you can click on the RAF button in the blue box top right of your screen to request an RAF (Retire After Finish -100 points).

The computer sometimes gets R18 wrong and this was one of those times. No worries!

Aloha!
