Pretty clear thing. Wolfango breaks rule 15.

Hi Bow, i was forced to tack not to prevent you, but because another boat tacked before me. However, after the turn, I'm back on the close-hauled course and so I acquired right of way.

No, you were not forced to tack, as you could easily have ducked the starboard boat. I was expecting that you might tack, when closer to the starboard boat after hailing "room to tack". You can see I am getting that very hail ready and fire it of ASAP after I see you tack. Since you don't hail you do not invoke rule 20 and have no protection from it. Consequently I am not forced to do anything before you aquire ROW after reaching CHC on starboard tack. When you do that I have allready initiated my tack, but cannot avoid the collision.

You are right that you aquired ROW, but you break rule 15 as you do not give me room to keep clear. Are you familiar with rule 15? It is very clear that when you become ROW boat, there is no way I can avoid you.

i believe, reviewing the replay, you would have responded immediately to my turn, as soon as it began, and so avoid the collision. You've tacked later and, only at that moment, you had no more room to tack.

You are absolutely right that I would have been able to avoid you if I tacked before. IT IS HOWEVER NOT RELEVANT AT ALL. Your problem is that I ONLY need to start avoiding you when you become ROW boat. You only become ROW boat when you reach CHC on starboard tack. After you become ROW boat, rule 15 demands of you that you give me room to KC. That you do not do, and therefore you break rule 15.

Pls read rule 15. You clearly do not understand the implications of this rule. Try to look at similar protests here on SailX. I have now tried my best to explain the rule to you here. I hope it helps.

I purchased right of way at 83.2, I believe that if, at that moment, you'd immediately tacked off (perhaps with a double shot) you would have avoided the collision. Maybe!!
However, apart from the exchange of views on the rule, which is always useful thing, the fact remains that my maneuver was done to hinder you.

I can't do more for you in explaining the rules than I have above, except to add that I am not according to the SailX SI required to use advanced manoeuvres like a quick-tack to avoid you when you gain right of way.

I suggest wolfango reads up and tries to understand rule 15, because his current interpretation is wrong.

DSQ wolfango Rule 15 -300 points

my interpretation should be wrong but -300 it's really to much.

Hi wolfango,

When a boat breaks a rule and does not exonerate they get a DSQ. On sailx that always comes with -300 points.

I suggest you read about rule 15 so you will hopefully not break rule 15 again. Try reading all the comments posted by the knowedegable people above. The explanations will hopefully help you to undersatnd rule 15 better.
