Don Nob did not leave me time to react - luffed very fast just before the hit. Barging. Rule 15 applies.

Hi Fin,

R15 is only about "acquiring ROW". Don has ROW for some time before changing course so R15 does not apply to him, he initially (at first) gave Room.

Can you let us know what rule does apply to Don and what rules apply to you?

Aloha!

Hi Okole,

Happy to see you here again.

**Please note there was 2 secs from luff to collision, and i used "spacebar" to perform the luff.

Right, thank you. Rule 16.1. should apply then.

He luffed first just a bit, no need to avoid him then (I need not to move before needed to) and then he hit space, which luffed so fast that I could not react.

Hi Fin,

Using Spacebar to luff is considered a slow luff on sailx.

Room - The space a boat needs in the existing
conditions while manoeuvring promptly in a seamanlike way.

Don starts luffing towards you at t=198.5.
You don't start acting until t=199.9.
Is that "manoeuvring promptly" ?
(promptly = without delay)

I avoided as fast as I could. There is no way that I could have avoided contact. He eased close to me and then hit space bar. If that's allowed, I stand corrected and will start using the same tactics as well. No way to avoid that.

closer to 1 1/2 seconds.

On sailx all it takes is hitting the up arrow to luff quickly when required to keep clear.
Test yourself here: getyourwebsitehere.com/jswb/rttest01.html
Normal human reaction times are around 0.3 of a second to hit a key.
On sailx we give users about 0.8 of a second to react and hit a key to start keeping clear.

You do nothing for 1.4 seconds. That is a delay.
The dictionary definition of Promptly means "without delay".
You delay your actions to keep clear by not acting promptly.

Decision:
fin7181 breaks R11 does not exonerate so gets a DSQ
