A double question... well.. 4 of 'em 2010/03/06 22:21 (1 Year, 11 Months ago)
First, some background:

Today in the *fun* regatta, race 4, between the first and second windward buoy, I headed down a bit toward #2, but not enough to even get within the zone of #2. TinkerSailor was to leeward and headed up very high into me.

I prefiled a Protest. When I reviewed the racelet, I saw that TS was sailing up to a windward layline, even though it was way high of an approach to the next mark for the rounding, making it a very strained call to think TS was sailing a PC. TS bumped LS. LS took the spin, but pre-filed.

1- I, LS told the protest system to forget the protest, after having reviewed the racelet. Is there any penalizing due to the prefile, or does the *forget* button completely forget the protest?

2- In the situation,, how much rights does the leeward boat have? Could TS have continued heading up on a windward LayLine away from the mark, and pushed me, LS, into Canada (no offense to Canada), or is sailing that high by TS deviating from a reasonable PC to the mark, and subject to a protest?

Thanks for your patience with a newbie.

3- Do guests have rights to file a protest? It looks like I could, yet the system seemed to say that guests could not. I am registered. Is that higher than a guest, but lower than a subscriptor, as the protest system sees it?

4- Chorrisplot protested me twice friday. I've replied to those protests, but he has not replied to my replies. Do I face any penalties? Got to run now for the rest of the day, and still not completely sure how this works.

tnx in advance...

I'll answer the 'procedural' ones.

Currently there is no penalization. But we are watching if users use the P flag to avoid the spin as a 'tactic'. In these cases the user will get Guest Rights.

3- Do guests have rights to file a protest?

No. Guests are anonymous and we cannot accept a protest filed by them. They can raise the P flag though.

Yes. Your answering the protest guarantees that you'll not be DSQ by NO-SHOW.
If neither you or Chorris ask for RAF the protest will be OPENed and eventually a ruling will be done with a DSQ for one of you most probably.

LightStep,

It helps to include a racelet (read the Wiki for how) or at least include the URL to the race (use the world-shaped icon to include a URL in your post). Here is your race4.

The rules situation starts clear back at t=195 when tink tacks into an overlap with you. Read rule 17 carefully. R17 does not apply here. As long as tink doesn't break R16.1 in the process, he can take you up indefinitely -- bring you to a complete stop if he wants.
