Afternoon all,
just looking though the threads Frodo came up with a good idea, having a mini event set up, i didnt take part myself but i would realy enjoy another pne as such,

any idea's guy?

Yeah, go ahead and organise it..

Once my work slows down, I plan on organizing a match race event. Probably in middle to late December... after my honeymoon....

I propose that the judges NOT be inherently biased and/or part of the round-robin rotation of competitors please

If Madness is planning to do something like the idea i was having maybe it would be a good idea for yourself (Madness) to organise it, as you've proberly got better knowledge of this than me,

With Sailing_Rugger point this is a really important one, as ive just recently been involved in a match racing competition when i believe that the umpire was on the side of one sailor, so with this we need someone or more than one to give oppinions on suitation, but if the person or persons are that experenced maybe they would like to take part so to make sure its 'fair' maybe giving them some kind of reward so they have an incentive to umpire as such.

Do you know how umpiring works in SailX Match Race?

The watchers can request UMPIRE status. Maybe you (sailor) get 5 or 6 requests, you can then refuse some of them, the other sailor the same.... at the end the umpires are always those who have not been rejected by any of the parties.

When the race starts and after every collision or every protest flag the active UMPIRES have their say and the system decides after counting the votes.

My point is still that those who will be UMPIRING should not also be taking part in the competition as their decisions will inherently be biased, consciously or not...

I understand your point. If/when I plan it, I will make sure to give every effort into getting independent umpires. If I can't get them, then I will be sure to have the umpiring approved before publishing SI's.
