It's very smooth and yes it is almost like a boat riding a wave, just the only problem being it is not actually in the place where it should be. Sorry Aestela if you were trying to eradicate jumping by smoothing it out, if you were great job. But I actually would take jumping over it, jumping is easy to predict where the boat is because it has a constant speed when not in the jumps. When 'surging' the speed keeps changing so it's very hard to predict its actual position. For me anyway. Probably personal opinion too. I thought that the issue of me ducking instead of tacking would have come up in this protest, mainly because I am on a collision course with the front part of ProOC's boat so it would seem logical for me to tack. I had to take into consideration the maneuverability of the cats though, tacks are extremely slow and cumbersome whereas bearing away and heading back up to a ChC is relatively quick and similar to boats like lasers/teams/skiffs. The way I see it, there was no way that I was ever going to avoid this collision if I tacked whereas there was a far better chance of me avoiding if I attempted to duck. I tried my best to duck, I have no Page Down key left now but I was close to avoiding. You break R13. You then bear away onto a course to the next mark when you can clearly stay on a CHC and GET WELL CLEAR ASAP to windward. That is your 2nd chance to GET WELL CLEAR ASAP. You then cover Mingo for the whole spreader leg when you have lots of clear space to windward into which you can GET WELL CLEAR ASAP. But you don't... You then sheet out in traffic at the spreader mark having not GOTTEN WELL CLEAR aqt all, and spin without GETTING WELL CLEAR. Which part of rule 44.2 is the most important part? See the underlined sentence above? It says GET WELL CLEAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . So if you wish to be exonerated when yo have broiken a rule, you must stop racing and get away from all other boats, get well clear, as soon as it is possible. In this incident you could have gotten well clear right after hitting the mark in several different ways, but you sail on and continue to race, which is not getting well clear. So you do not comply with R44.2 and will get a DSQ here. Sailing o9n like this when you have ample opportunity to get well clear is unfair sailing an as such is a breach of R2. This is your 2nd offense for not exonerating correctly when having clearly broken a rule, so to help you learn fair sailing and to protect other sailx users, your account gets restricted. A good thing about sailx is that we all sail together, so everyone gets to sail with the top sailors. Of course that's a bad thing too because the top sailors expect their competitors to learn the controls. A good option if it looks like you're about to (or just have) fouled someone badly in a way that puts their race at risk is to press Esc twice (esc-esc). That retires you from the current race and you just . . . disappear. The upside is that folks seldom protest boats that have vaporized themselves. And rightly should be heard because there was some judgment to be made about why you tacked into the ROW boats. Whether you did so on purpose for gain breaking rule 2, or just made a mistake. Your testimony and actions show that it was a mistake that you exonerated for with no bad intent. The reason we have protests like this is to keep the hacks at bay, those who don't care to sail by the rules. Yes unfortunately it is necessary. AND more importantly has taught you about the ESC (retirement) key, rule 44.2 and about not tacking into ROW boats at the windward mark. All good - the protest has done it's job. The boats have a closing speed of around 8 knots, and 4020sailor has about 1 boat length to see you acquire ROW, promptly move to hit a key to bear away or tack and then have his boat respond in a seamalike way (safe - no crash tacks or bear aways) to be able to keep clear. There is clearly not enough "Room" to do all that. Rule 15 says that if you tack so close to other boats you must givbe them "Room" to keep clear. Room - The space a boat needs in the existing conditions, including space to comply with her obligations under the rules of Part 2 and rule 31, while manoeuvring promptly in a seamanlike way. That is they must be able to promptly respond to you acquiring ROW and be able to Keep Clear. 420sailor tacks promptly after you acquire ROW. He is unable to keep clear. He could have tried ducking but probably would not have made it and would have been accellerating into a T-bone collision, very dangerous. Not advisable. Tacking was his beast option to keep clear here with less damage if he cannot. If I am correct, you would have to wait until all boats in the chain ahve had time to hail and take appropriate action. Clearly, the longer the 'chain' of boats the longer you'd need to wait before starting your tack. We have to rule protests based on the rules and definitions as currently written in the RRS. So let's look at the rules and definitions that apply here: Bluebull is clear ahead so is the ROW boat as per R12. Turbo must "Keep Clear". Keep Clear - A boat keeps clear of a right-of-way boat (a) if the right-of-way boat can sail her course with no need to take avoiding action and, (b) when the boats are overlapped, if the right-of-way boat can also change course in both directions without immediately making contact. Turbo is Keeping Clear the whole time until Bluebull luffs. We know this because bluebull can sail his course (straight ahead course) without taking avoiding action and can change course without "Immediately" making contact. But when Bluebull luffs, his course change does not give Turbo Room to keep clear, so bluebell's course change breaks R16.1. It does not matter how Turbo got there, whether you feel he "gybed late". He was keeping clear until Bluebull changes course so does not break any rule before bluebull luffs. I hope that clears everything up for you. Aloha! He does not get well clear as soon as possible but continues to race when he could sheet out allow boats to pass and then get clear to spin. bifton also does not comply with R44.2 when he breaks R13 with tomy1 at t=105 It seems bifton needs to learn to comply with R44.2. Yes there is not much Room and shooby is to windward of sailcat so sailcat must be careful not to break R16.1 with shooby, but sailcat must try to keep clear in the Room given. If not he breaks R11. Had sailcat responded promptly to R270's luff, and contact still occurred, then yes R270 would break R16.1. But by not responding at all sailcat breaks R11. Part #2: Once R270 reaches the zone R18.2.b instantly turns on and R270 must instantly be giving sailcat and shooby Mark-Room. R270 is not so breaks R18.2.b. R270 breaks R18.2.b once when entering the zone and then again later at the mark. R270 then does not get clear ASAP so does not comply with R44.2. R270 breaks R22.2 with Shooby by forcing shooby to avoid while R270 is spinning. R270 does not spin for breaking R22.2. I went to Boston to work on Weds. and was amazed to see cops on almost every corner. Then motorcycle police everywhere from many different towns going by constantly. There were even Humvees set up almost as tanks driving around. The FBI and all other police forces put in a full court press to capture this guy , and they did it so well that he is still alive and able to share info about those that may have brainwashed him and especially his brother into doing this type of atrocity. They needed to show the world that the USA will not stand for this type of behavior. I feel sorry for those people who live in parts of the world where this happens all to often.
