Upon entering the zone of the leeward mark, KingOfWind is overlapped inside SJ77 who is overlapped inside somedude.

somedude fails to provide SJ77 mark-room upon entering the zone. KingOfWind also luffs far higher than necessary to sail to the mark, taking more room than she is entitled to. SJ77 is caught in the middle, between KindOfWind taking too much room and somedude not proving any room.

SJ77 is the only boat penalized, despite being the only boat who did not break a rule!

And of course somedude does not T his penalty so SJ77 must spin. It makes no sense for a sub to T or spin, ever, since they lose more points by spinning than they do by RAF.

System Info:SJ77 was given a pen at t=166 (RE:Rule 18 - Mark room (!!)).    SJ77 raised the P flag at=169.  SJ77 span at t=178.

Looks to me like contact between me and SJ77's spinnaker is made at 165.4, before SJ77 is in the zone. Thus R77's pen (R11) before R18 begins to apply.

At time of contact, I was and SJ77 was not

When does rule 18 start to apply?

When the first boat gets there R18.2(b). Oops. I stand corrected; another lesson learned.
