RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship

Announcing the inaugural 'RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship' organised by the RYA and SailX in collaboration with the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show and the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.

BRIEF OVERVIEW:
The RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship is a virtual fleet-race regatta that will take place online during the weeks leading up to the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012 with the Finals taking place on the Volvo Main Stage at the dinghy show itself.
• The Championship is open to all. There will be a voluntary ‘Entry Fee’ for the regatta and 100% of the funds raised will go to charity
• As well as racing for themselves each competitor will also race on behalf of a boat Class - the Class that they have strongest affiliation with
• The competition will comprise three x two week long phases ('Practice Event', 'Quarter Finals' and 'Semi Finals') leading up to a 'Finals' phase which will take place on both days of the Show and which will be shown on the large screen on the Volvo Main Stage
• During each phase competitors will need to race three or four (depending on the phase) online regattas
• Each regatta will comprise five or six races (depending on the phase) and will last approx. 45minutes
• At the conclusion of each stage of the Championship an 'Individual Ranking' will be produced as well as a 'Class Ranking' based on the performance of the top performing individuals representing that Class (similar to Constructors Championship in F1)
• Following the conclusion of the Finals on Sunday 4th March the winning Class will be awarded the “RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship Trophy 2012” and the winning individual will be awarded with the 2012 Virtual Endeavour Trophy.
