RYA VOLVO DINGHY SHOW SAILX CHAMPIONSHIP

After seven solid weeks of racing, the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship is now finished! The ‘RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship’ was a virtual fleet-race regatta took place in the lead up to the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012 with the 'Live Finals' taking place on the Volvo Main Stage big screen – the centre piece of the Dinghy Show itself (3rd / 4th March in Alexandra Palace, London).

Non UK resident users and UK resident users who could not make the Show had a separate 'Online Finals' series over the same weekend.

The Championship took place in four phases - as follows:
1. Practice Phase: Jan 16th-Jan 29th (not scored)
2. Quarter-Finals, Jan 30th–Feb 12th (best 3 regatta scores x 1.0)
3. Semi-Finals, Feb 13th-Feb 26th (best 3 regatta scores x 3.0)
4. Finals, March 3rd and 4th (best single regatta score x 6.0)

‘Online Final’ Results
The individuals competition was won by flow (USA, 49er). The classes competition (class score based on sum of scores of top ten individuals representing that class) was dominated by the Laser class with the 49er class and Laser Radial in 2nd and 3rd position.

‘Live Final’ Results
Ultimately it was SailX user Seb Baucutts (baucutts) a young and competitive 29er (and RS Feva) sailor from Stokes Bay in the UK that prevailed – taking the overall ‘Live Finals’ win – and the honour of being the very first holder of the new Virtual Endeavour Trophy as a result.
Along with his trophy Seb took home a fantastic haul of prizes – a long-weekends use of a Volvo XC90, a beautiful pair of Bollé sunglasses, a 12-month subscription to Yachts & Yachting magazine and a Tactic Microcompass from Raymarine – the ultimate racers tool.
And if this was not enough, as a result of Seb’s win and strong performances from three other fellow 29er sailors, the 29er class took the overall class prize and the first ‘RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship Trophy’. In post regatta interviews a proud and excited group of young 29er sailors said they would be back to defend this class win ‘with their lives’ – for sure its going to be a fight to take it off them in 2013!

Wrap Up
Well done to all - with 650+ individual entries from approx. 70 classes this regatta has featured some of the best racing we have seen on SailX so far.
